Asheville AI Reality Check

Saturday, November 14 – 2:00 PM EST

About this event

Join Asheville community members for an AI reality check. This workshop will provide an introduction to what AI is, the risks it creates, and commonsense steps we can take to keep humans in control. Expect audience participation and practical ways to take action.

This event is part of a nationwide day of action on November 14 about what AI means for our jobs, our kids, and our future. Come to learn more.

This event is open to everyone and particularly oriented for people who want to learn more about AI and/or have some concerns about the speed of AI development right now. You won't need any kind of AI or tech background to participate.

Presenter: Ellie Johnston, volunteer for Humans in Control About: I’m fascinated by big global challenges and how to address them. My work has mostly been around climate change, where I have pioneered approaches to bridge the gap between science and policy. Using computer simulations, interactive workshops, and role playing games, I have built programs that have engaged millions worldwide around solutions to climate change. I have been an invited speaker at top universities, the United Nations, and SXSW. I look forward to sharing the AI Reality Check presentation from Humans in Control for this event and exploring how we can take action to avoid AI-driven catastrophes.
